Overview
The avenger in white, Copen, is a story that is repeated time and again throughout the world. His father's murder at the hands of a superpowered maniac opened his eyes to a troubling realization: those with power are dangerous without checks and balances. He took it upon himself to become the check and the balance. Copen is a merciless, relentless killer who targets those with superhuman abilities in order to remind them that they are not gods, only mortals, and that all mortals must fear justice. The brilliant young man uses his father's money and his own scientific expertise to appoint himself judge, jury, and executioner, hunting those guilty of the crime of superhumanity wherever they appear. While Copen is a relentless man, he is not a foolish one, and his hand can be temporarily stayed by a true evil - but such a stay of his pursuit is only temporary, for no matter how good a person may appear, Copen knows well that anyone with power will inevitably be tempted to abuse it. His most dangerous tool in the fight is the shield Aixgear, a versatile weapon that can change forms and copy the superhuman abilities of defeated foes. The irony of using his enemy's own weapons against them is not lost on Copen.
Perks
Aixgear< Copy-T >: A hypertech shield that emulates enemy powers using physical remains.
Copen's handmade hypertech shield functions as both a shield to protect him from enemy powers and as his greatest weapon. By using the genetic material or remains of an opponent, the Aixgear is capable of copying their powers, using the remains as fuel. These remains must be at least tangible - ectoplasm would suffice for a ghost, but 'spirit' or 'mana' or 'ambient energy' is not sufficient. So long as there is some form of physical remains that can theoretically be traced to the powers, the Aixgear can copy the power and burn the material. It can change its shape to accomodate powers, allowing it to become a bow-shaped cannon in order to launch powers that its shield form cannot. Copen is skilled at utilizing these powers in creative ways.
Voder: A high-tech revolver that once belonged to Copen's father.
Copen's father's revolver. It is a high-tech revolver, extremely flexible in its use. Its bullets are not special, but are ludicrously high-caliber for lots of stopping power against superhuman foes.
Wargear: A suit of power armor that increases Copen's strength and durability.
Copen's powersuit, which appears to be a normal hoodie. It increases his strength and durability to allow him to survive and deal blows that would stagger ordinary men, but not so much so that he can be careless - merely that he can survive something that should kill him. Additionally, it contains "Program Routines," which allow the suit to take over and act on his behalf in the event of him being unconscious, optimize his aim for incredible feats of precision, or perform acrobatics above and beyond even his own abilities. The suit cannot, however, compensate for bad aim or exhaustion inflicted by his "Coffee Addict" or "No Rest For The Wicked" flaws - it can get him out of danger, but it cannot fight for him, and if he shoots poorly, the program can make that poor shooting very *accurate* to whatever he's shooting at, but it won't make him *actually shoot at his intended target*.
Ruthless Genius: Copen's ruthless scientific brilliance.
Copen is a calculating scientific and pragmatic genius. A mercilessly persistent tracker vigilante, Copen can follow enemies from small trails back to their lairs and hunt them down with brutal efficiency. Copen is thoroughly educated in the fields of computer science, biology, and engineering. He can craft highly-advanced science fiction-esque gear and weaponry, such as the Aixgear and his wargear. He can design the rudimentary (at the moment) artificial intelligences that make up his "Program Routines." Copen does not share this technology with anyone, for any reason; it would mean that other people could unravel his secrets, which would leave him very, very vulnerable.
Combat Genius: Copen is a human capable of matching superhumans with nothing but training.
Even without his gear, Copen is a ludicrously dangerous opponent. He is able to go hand-to-hand against opponents with superhuman abilities (provided their superhuman abilities are not "I am superhumanly skilled at combat"), compensating for superior speed, strength, or durability in order to give himself a fighting chance if unarmed. However, Copen is still only human; none of the feats he can perform are superhuman, merely able to compensate for his weakness when dealing with superhumanity.
Moneybags: Copen is extremely wealthy.
Copen is exceptionally wealthy, as his father was a famous scientist who sold anti-Adept technology to numerous buyers. Copen has the resources to, largely, acquire any mundane item he requires, or buy high-tech components for his upgrades and gear.
NPCs
Nori< Named D-Tier >: Copen's maid and combat trainer.
Copen's maid and combat teacher, Nori is a skilled martial artist equally as capable of going toe-to-toe with superhumans as Copen, but without Copen's high-tech engineering. Nori primarily takes care of transport for Copen in his civilian identity as Acura, keeps Copen's little sister Michiru safe, and maintains and protects Copen's estate.
Complications
Demon of God: Copen kills superhumans innocent or not, but never humans. He keeps his word.
At the site of his father's murder, Acura Kazimono made a vow to purge the world of those with unnatural powers. This vow led him to take up the mantle of Copen and become a "demon of God," a scourging warrior who hunts the super-powered with unrelenting hate. It is this very vow that has led Copen to hold all promises sacred, no matter whom he gives them to - and no matter the personal expense or inconvenience. It is this very virtue that makes him a demon of *God*, rather than a simple demon - he knows that he does evil, but he believes that with this restriction, he becomes a necessary evil rather than a simple monster. He further restricts himself from harming ordinary human beings, even if they oppose him or his ways. In Copen's mind, they're confused, not the enemy; even if they try and kill him, he'll simply attempt to escape or restrain them. If Copen is ever put into a situation where he has no other choice but to kill a human, the psychological scarring left behind will be profound and thorough.
Merciless Extremist: Copen might work with you temporarily, but you will end up back in his sights.
While Copen is perfectly capable of compromising with powered individuals long enough to solve a problem, the instant the problem is solved, his gun will likely be right back in their face. He is incapable of making friends with powered people for any real period of time, and while he may be willing to hold his fire to protect innocent ordinary humans, he will not hold his fire to protect innocent powered people. Any ceasefires with Copen last only as long as it is convenient for Copen.
Michiru: Copen's little sister is largely defenseless without Nori or Copen around.
Acura's little sister knows nothing of his doings as the vigilante 'Adept Slayer Copen', only that her older brother is very busy all the time. She is ill, sickly, stunted, and mute. Acura cares immensely for Michiru; targeting her is a sure way to get the vigilante to act hastily and rashly.
No Rest For The Wicked: Copen can and does work himself to exhaustion in pursuit of his targets.
Copen will pursue his targets with dogged determination, exhausting them through sheer persistence. This also exhausts *him* through sheer persistence, which can lead to slip-ups and mistakes. This is not a common complication, but rather something that represents Copen's obsessive nature and how he can be distracted or worn down by his own hunt.
Lone Wolf: Copen is a prickly sort.
Copen doesn't even make friends among humans easily. He's prickly, unpleasant, snarky, and isolated by his own path. His will may be strong, but any man has trouble standing alone against the tide for long periods of time, and Copen's loneliness can be exploited by clever foes able to disguise their true nature as superhumans, or by ordinary humans who have decided to stand against him. He does not trust easily, ever, and that includes people who are trying to help him.
Coffee Addict: Copen is thoroughly addicted to caffiene.
Copen is thoroughly addicted to coffee. He requires large amounts of it to keep functioning through the night, and prefers his coffee extremely black and very bitter. If he's deprived of caffiene for long periods of time, not only will he be exhausted, he will suffer from shakes, headaches, and other withdrawal symptoms.
No Friend Of Justice: Copen runs afoul of law enforcement on any world on account of being a murderer.
Copen, if he makes a name for himself on a world, is probably making a negative one. Law enforcement agents will actively hunt the Adept Slayer unless they personally share his views; for example, a squad of cops dedicated to hunting down superhumans might be willing to cooperate with him, but even they might also turn on him if they realize the extent of his vendetta and how willing he is to kill people who have committed no crime. Genuinely crooked cops, cops who are biased against superhumans, and other such dirty cops might play along with him, but otherwise, Copen can generally expect to be targeted and hunted as little more than a "cape serial killer" at best.
