The Witch and the Horrible Night

It was almost five in the morning before Holly had made it back to the dorms. It had taken her hours to find her broom after she lost it in the forest. The door made a rattling sound as she couldn't open it. She dug around in her ripped skirt only to find her key was missing as well. Holly banged on the door, leaving a bit of imprint on the wood where her knuckles hit. "Rue, open the door! I'm locked out."

"If you're a vampire now, you can't come inside..." Holly barely heard a soft voice through the closed door.

"I'm not a vampire, open the door or I'll kick it down again!" Holly wasn't her usual cheerful self. The door suddenly unlocked with the shorter witch in black in front of it.

"That was a test you realize, if you were a vampire you wouldn't be able to kick down the door." Rue stepped out of the way to let Holly through.

"Does that really work?" Holly looked at the other witch a bit curiously as she made her way to her bed.

"You would be gullible enough to believe it. Anyway, not that I really care but what happened?" Rue figured that Holly would tell her regardless anyway.

"Well, we managed to get rid of the vampires, but one of them is a real jerk who makes others into vampires with this scepter, he ran away before I could grab it. The vampire that was controlling also disappeared." She explained as she got ready for bed.

"Maybe you focus on trying to becoming a witch and let the adults solve the other problems? Exams are coming up and even if you're here on a scholarship the dean isn't going to give you a free pass." Rue reminds her, "I suppose they paired us up since you need all the help you can get."

"Wait, you're going to actually help me study?!" Holly sounded a bit more upbeat now that Rue was going to be her study partner.

Don't get too excited. It's part of the terms for me staying here. I have to help the students who need it." Rue didn't want Holly to get the wrong impression or anything. "Now go to bed, children need their sleep." Rue did so to set a good example for her.

"Okay, but I'm not a child!" Holly pouted a bit as she laid down into her bed and closed her eyes. She could hear the following before dozing off.

"You will be if you don't pass those exams."
