Not So Mercenary

"Since when do you work for free, Temulin?" The voice comes from behind Temulin, the armoured figure sitting down next to the Au Ra. "You can't let her get to you like that. She's taking advantage of you, and if you keep doing this you'll end up being everyone's lapdog, just doing what others tell you to without any thought for why you're doing this, without any real gratitude because people just assume you're always willing to help."

Temulin doesn't answer immediately, letting the figure berate her while she sticks to sharpening her blade. Eventually, however, she answers. "I'm not going to make a habit out of this, if that's what you're implying. She's young, hurt, and I owe her one." She sighs, "Or have you forgotten that I tried to kill her due to a misunderstanding, Fray?"

"No I haven't, but you apologized and she'd accepted your apology. Normally you'd leave it at that, this is not like you." The mentor looks at the fire Temulin's built up, "You made this smaller than usual. Are you her mother now? You gave her your word, so you've got to do this now, but she's capable of summoning beings not unlike primals, she's not just some child."

"Not just some child, no. She's a powerful child, but still a child who's lost everything, who was scared." Temulin answers, finally bothering to look at Fray. "Look, I appreciate the lessons on being a dark knight, I really do. But what does this have to do with that?"

Fray shrugs and gets up, "Well I suppose Temulin Khan would have a use for a child like that."

Temulin doesn't bother answering that accusation directly, but does throw another log on the fire.
