A lesson in Hope

"Miss Aesland, please focus. This spell is a simple one. Create a sphere of light. You need only to focus your will and the Primus will obey. Concentrate on creating the sphere. Maintaining it comes with practice." Doctor Willowsong says calmly, demonstrating the spell. A pinprick of light appears, then expands to about the size of a marble, and then it hangs there. "This is known commonly as a 'Will'o'wisp'. It's used in lieu of lanterns, flashlights or the like which can have limited batteries. Useful on worlds with a high Primus concentration."

Hope frowns a bit, hugging her knees to her chest. She watches the spell take shape, then squeezes her eyes shut and attempts to visualize the finished product. Besides the Doctor's, a pinprick of light forms... then expands to about a third of the size of the elf's before winking out again. Hope gasps, then takes a few breaths, before frowning, her young face twisting with frustration.

The Doctor, meanwhile, smiles warmly. "That was good, many young aspirants take a couple of weeks to even get this far, you have managed it in a few days. Lets take a break, you can show me your new project if you like." he offers, moving to stand and dismissing his Wisp.
