Fairy Tail is a world in which Magic comes in all shapes and forms, and the people who study it are known as Mages or Wizards. These people have formed Guilds, which compete or work together to help keep the world safe and hone their magical talent.

Overview

Magic, the classical term for supernatural phenomena.

It comes in many different shapes, forms, and manifestations.

And the people who wield magic are known as Mages or Wizards.

What once scared the world has now become commonplace, as Wizards seeking to refine their craft banded into guilds and set up their headquarters in various cities throughout the world. These guilds helped normalize the existence of magic to normal people, providing services to the surrounding area and generating commerce in whatever cities they set up in.

While once, these guilds went to war with each other to compete for supremacy, after what became known as the 'Second Trade War', the loss of life became too great. The Guilds created a centralized authority known as the 'Magic Council'. The Magic Council appointed what were known as 'Wizard Saints', incredibly powerful Wizards from across the world to oversee the registration of guilds. This came with a ban on outright, unapproved warfare between registered guilds. Guilds that did not register with the Magic Council became known as Dark Guilds, illegal and hunted.

Soon enough, peace had settled in as what were once wars were forced to become competitive, non-lethal combats. The world was far from perfect, and Dark Guilds and monsters still plagued the land. But now, war between guilds no longer threatens national stability. Wizards and guilds are free to pursue the progression of magic.

One of the most famous of these Guilds, and a frequent pain for the Magic Council due to their reckless nature, is Fairy Tail. Unfortunately for attempts to rein them in, they are also unarguably the strongest guild on their continent. Fortunately, for undisclosed reasons, they disbanded 4 months ago.

Growing in the West, however, a new empire is rising and uniting its Guilds into one Empire, known as the Alvarez Empire.
