Overview

On an Earth like any other, in the year 2030, the first shinki was made. It is now 2040, and shinki are a household commodity. Bought and sold in tech stores, new and refurbished, the little helper robots are as widespread, numerous, and as mainstream as a standard computer or cellphone.
A booming microculture has developed, surrounding the miniature little robots, leading to specialized shops with items for shinki and shinki owners, with all manners of sports events and contests in which shinki are the main participants, for entertainment purposes.
integration

Since the Multi Moveable Systems corporation- or MMS caught wind of other worlds, they encouraged their affiliated shinki manufacturing companies to up production, that way they could start selling shinki units offworld.
In general, it may no longer be out of the ordinary to see shinki shops on larger worlds with higher populations and technology levels, where they can easily sell more units. However due to their nature as sapient beings once activated, other worlds might take issue with the buying and selling of shinki, this was addressed in a law passed on the shinki world of origin: In their inactive state, shinki are sold as electronic products. In their active state, shinki have many rights similar to any other living being, but by programming tend to latch onto one specific person they view as their 'master'.
Career shinki; or shinkis that work for a corporation rather than a single owner may be seen performing tasks such as flight stewardesses or restaurant waiters off of their world of origin.
Some cities may even end up with small 'Shinki Cities' emerging beneath them, in which shinkis without masters hijack rogue power flows to maintain themselves and live independantly, without anyone telling them what to do.
