Overview

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... It is the year 9 ABY. The Galactic Empire has fallen to the forces of the rebellion, and after the destruction of the Empire's great super weapon, the second Death Star, a New Republic has been formed, seeking to stabilize the galaxy once again in a new era of peace.
But this peace is tenuous at best. Weakened Imperial holdouts bide their time and their strength at the edge of the galaxy, maintaining their iron grip of terror and despotic rule over what little they can, while the New Republic remains largely clueless to their existence.
This entire galaxy has now become a not-so-isolated pocket of the tree, creating a small diaspora of a galaxy's worth of locales clustered together with myriad vines on almost each planet... Planets ranging from the barren desert planet Tatooine and the frozen reaches of Hoth, to the lush jungles of Kashyyyk and Endor and the sprawling planet-wide city of Coruscant, all now reachable through the vines or by standard ship travel.
Light speed travel is common, as are high tech laser weaponry, but long past is the glory era of the Jedi; an order of monastic scholar warriors that sought to maintain the peace and balance of the galaxy by wielding a form of magic called The Force. The Jedi now dwindle in number, long forgotten by many and remembered as little more than a story to tell children at night.
Integration

The worlds of this galaxy are wide and varied in tech level and societies, but one thing is common. The most advanced races and peoples have gained access to light speed travel and use it on a common basis. Now with the universe becoming one with the the tree, new vines to other worlds are viewed as either trade routes to new worlds, or dangerous and unpredictable at best. This leads to new opportunities for traders, criminals, and bounty hunters alike, while in-universe travel requires a more heavy reliance on light speed travel. These various folk visit new worlds with their light speed capable ships, roving to and fro offering their services of cargo carrying, passenger ferrying, or the less scrupulous types such as smugglers who plot new routes to carry their illegal wares through the worlds of the Tree.
Of course where there are the lawless, there are always those who are willing to go the extra mile to bring them in... For a price. Bounty hunters who will go to the ends of the universe to track their prey now have whole new worlds of job opportunities to seek, while the people of the tree have a whole new universe of technology to get their hands on in light speed capable ships and laser blasters.
