Overview
A variation of the Nasuverse -- or more specifically, Fate/Stay Night itself. A modern world where magic still exists, albeit hidden away from the public eye, among secretive societies.
On one particular winter, in a certain japanese town, the fifth iteration of a magic ritual to take hold of the wish-granting artifact called The Holy Grail was conducted. Seven mages coming together, with heroic spirits of legendary figures from the past summoned as their familiars to fight each other for the right to the Grail.
Something has gone horribly wrong with this ritualistic battle royale, however. Though The Grail was intended to manifest only after the defeat of all the 'Servant' heroic spirits save for one, an unidentified outside interference instead brought it to manifesting in an incomplete, corrupted state before so much as a single Servant was defeated. With overwhelming magical energy running haywire, the world itself attempted to reject the corrupted artifact, resulting in a maelstorm of clashing metaphysical forces and then--
Uncertainty.
The state of the world where The Fifth Holy Grail War backfired is unknown, with no Vines connecting to it, and the few inhabitants shunted into the World Tree by the temporary tears into the fabric of existence having fallen through before witnessing the results of the incident. For all anyone knows, the Faulty Grail could have self-destructed without any other adverse effects -- or it could have taken the World itself with it.
