Overview

The land of Eos is a planet at war. The Empire of Niflheim, armed with magitek, sweeps across the land to conquer all. The Kingdom of Lucis, under the rule of king Regis Lucis Caelum, resists with all of its might the empire's pushes, while others have fallen into uneasy alliances with the empire to avoid war.

Night is dangerous, creatures known as daemons surfacing from the shadows to slay those who stray from light too much. Major cities and villages arm themselves with great lights, relying on it to keep daemons at bay. Yet, it seems that every passing day, the nights become longer by a few seconds, and many worry about them adding up soon.

And then there's those rumors that the empire is performing experiments on daemons, just as they unveil their latest innovation, autonomous magitek soldiers, mass-produced semi-mechanical supersoldiers able to easily outnumber the armies of Lucis.

The Astrals, the gods of this world, continue to slumber, showing no signs that they'll interfere with the war.

Technological levels in this world are somewhere around modern Earth, with smartphones being the primary method of communication and cars being common. The empire's technology is more advanced, due to magitek, featuring airships, drones and power armor among other advancements. Power is produced across the land via magic, via harvesting crystals, or via magitek, depending on location.
The Kingdom of Lucis

Under the rule of king Regis Lucis Caelum, Lucis fights back against the empire using magic and determination. The Kingsglaive, an army of men and women empowered by Regis with various superhuman abilities, are the kingdom's greatest line of defense, and extremely OC friendly for application purposes.

The capital of Lucis, the Crown City Insomnia, is protected by the "Wall", a magical field that prevents anyone from entering the city without authorization. All of the empire's attempts to breach it haven't worked so far, but the Wall is taxing to maintain, and the empire can tell the king's power wanes as time passes.

At the heart of Insomnia is the Crystal, the treasure of Lucis. An object of legend, it is said to keep daemons at bay, but little else is known of its capabilities.

Passed down from king to king, Lucis also enjoys the protection of a second great treasure: the Ring of the Lucii, said to be able to harness the mysterious powers of the Crystal and of the ancient kings of Lucis.

The Empire of Niflheim

The Niflheim Empire is ruled by emperor Iedolas Aldercapt, a greedy man whose sights are set on the Crystal of Lucis and the Ring of the Lucii. Having conquered all of Eos but the one kingdom, he believes those two treasures will give him the power he needs to take, and hold, the whole world.

In his pursuit of power, the man is willing to perform any deed no matter how immoral. The empire's research into daemons, and its willingness to cage and use them against their foes, is but the tip of that iceberg.

Armed with magitek, ancient technology mastered by the empire, they swoop across the land with their airships and magitek troopers, strange, autonomous robot-like metal men who know neither fear nor pain.

The empire openly allies itself with the Harvesters.

Integration

The Kingdom of Lucis is wary of other worlds, but won't refuse the help of those who would oppose the empire for them. The Empire of Niflheim, meanwhile, has its sights set very clearly on conquering any world they can reach, forging alliances with like-minded entities like them, not just to increase their reach but also to develop new technologies based on those of other worlds.

For the commonfolk, the surge of visitors from offworld provides additional safety at night, as many are the adventurers and hunters willing to help safeguard areas from the daemons. Diners across the land offer discounts for offworlders, especially the cities of Lucis which don't benefit from the Wall's protection, who also see adventurers as unlikely to put up with the empire's encroaching invasions.

They also see in it a silver lining. As the empire sets its sights on other worlds, the pressure on Lucis seems to have diminished.
