Overview

A grim land, Midgard is wracked by constant war and struggle, both of man against man as well as the depredations of supernatural entities. The Aesir are uncaring and distant, Odin obsessed with preparing for the imminent threat of Ragnarok. To this end, he sends forth the Valkyries to do his bidding. Despite this, the schemes of Aesir, Vanir, and mortal alike threaten to tear the Nine Worlds apart regardless of the prophesied destruction.

TECHNOLOGY

Most of the world follows an Eastern European motif. Castles and ruins dot the land, some of the areas have french-style names, knights and kings rule the land. There's also a Feudal Japan area, because why not, Einherjar samurai. There are some abberations of technology, mostly in the form of advanced magitechnological alchemical apparatus.

Before anyone mentions it, the Seraphic Gate is noncanon and is not part of the actual game world.

MAGIC

Magic is plentiful in the world of Valkyrie Profile, from standard elemental sorceries to complex divine powers, rituals, and artifacts that can destroy the world. It mostly adheres to classic RPG tropes.
