Overview
The Eastern Isles setting takes place in what one could equate to the Caribbean. It takes place in a relatively fantasy-ized version of that time period, the main exception being that as well as animals the world is populated by fantastic creatures known as Pokemon. These creatures are semi-intelligent supernatural animals which can be caught in special Pokeballs made from fruit known as Apricorns.
Nestled South of the nation of Unova (akin to the USA) rests a collection of isles that host several independent tribes. While they have the technology to catch Pokemon, this setting is what could be considered primitive- it is the 'Age of Discovery' and this world a 'tribal fantasy'. In addition to the native tribes, the navy of the nation of Kalos (akin to France) has recently set its sights on the isles. They have established a base camp named Port Ivyhollow, but have been unable to expand beyond its borders.
The indigenous people of Visiwa came to the islands with a great breadth of knowledge from the Golden Age of Empathica, but life in these lands was not what they expected... 'The Golden Age of Empathica' concerns the almost-mythological ideas of the origins of the Visiwan society- a utopian nation known as Empathica, led by the mother-goddess Mew. The origin of Pokémon, and the dangers the wilds presented were very alien concepts to these new people. They quickly learned the laws of this new home, and their society and studies shifted to adapt to survival in a primal land.
The explorers from Kalos have recently created an Explorers Guild that welcomes civilians from the homeland, willing soldiers, and Wildings- their name for the natives of this land- to collaborate and learn from one another as they explore the isle.
Visitors to Visiwa from other worlds are mostly treated like other Wildlings who wish to join up with the expeditionary forces, given the hands-off approach that usually comes with dealing with the natives so long as they're putting their abilities towards positive exploration of the isles and not personal greed. People who wish to explore entirely to catch rare and valuable Pokemon generally attract negative attention, unless they can assure that they are treating the Pokemon with proper respect- even if those Pokemon happen to be the dangerous and harmful kinds. All Pokemon are given equal respect in this world, regardless of their potential harm to humanity.
