Overview
Hope's Peak Academy, known as the modern (Earth) world's most extremely prodigious high school. The most highly skilled teenagers of all kinds of talents are scouted out and given the chance to take on their education here. Though calling it education might be a little generous, as while they give lessons the Ultimates (which is what the scouted students are referred to) are never required to come to class and are only expected to continue practicing their talents. It's even said that graduating here leaves one set for life. However, generally the only way one would get in without the school asking you to come in for free, is to pay SEVERAL arms and legs worth in fees to join the reserve corps, a group full of normies that generally get treated like 2nd class citizens within the school.
If the high popularity combined with the differential treatment of the 'Ultimates' compared to the paying students didn't make it obvious, this is really just one big science experiment and all the Ultimates are spoiled lab rats! Between that and the fact that so many of the Ultimates are somewhat over the top, having a normal school life here is still far from what anyone SHOULD be calling normal. While things like throwing people through walls and other over the top things that would NORMALLY be thought of as dangerous are common here, killing each other is EXTREMELY frowned upon No killing games are allowed here!
As for the world outside of Hope's Peak Academy, it's just another normal, modern day Earth. If anything is notably odd about it, it's how strangely popular Hope's Peak Academy is for being a school. There are things like internet message boards just devoted to people sharing information and rumors about the latest people they've heard have been recruited, as if they were some sort of celebrities. The Ultimates are really treated like a big deal, and to some of them that's kind of weird, actually. There are also, far less popular and less selective, younger grade year branches of Hope's Peak Academy for potential upcoming Ultimates in the Elementary and Middle School years.
With the portals having started opening recently, people are a bit torn on how to take it and decisions are still being made about it. As this is basically just normal Earth aside from some odd incidents involving Hope's Peak and the Ultimates, people have NO idea what to do about these portals. A lot of people are frightened by this phenomenon. A lot of them see it as some grand new adventure to be had. Some see it as a forewarning of some sort of invaders. Others see it as a way to make brand new discoveries and new friends. As for Hope's Peak Academy? It likely sees this as another opportunity to improve on it's studies of talent and how to grow and create it. Staff and suitable students alike have likely been put to the task of learning about all these new occurrences going around due to the world tree.
Killing Games
This reality based on the danganronpa mini game Talent Development Plan and is thus devoid of the killing games from the main canon. It is instead a version of Hope's Peak where nearly all the characters from the different Danganronpa medias are going through their school life together. There's still lots of craziness (explosions, someone spiking lunch, a puppy suddenly growing the size of a building, standardized tests in the form of rpg battles, talking robot/plushie mascot things sometimes acting as teachers or other staff when the human adults aren't around to do it, ect, ect, ect) going on here and there, however.
Ultimates
Normally there is only one student that is best at one talent (only one 'Ultimate Writer', 'Ultimate Cook', 'Ultimate Assassin', ect) , but that trend is broken on rare occasions. Talents can be VERY alike and still be considered different, however. Narrowing things down to be more specific about what a character is good at is best.
(Un)Realism
Danganronpa is a very over the top stylistic sort of theme, to the point that it can sometimes be hard to tell if characters are truly capable of things they are doing, or if it's all just for over the top flash and showiness. For the sake of simplicity in this, it is likely that everything is actually exactly as it seems. While the world is MOSTLY held to realistic standards, the Ultimates are here at Hope's Peak specifically FOR being somehow far above the average or even supernatural for what they can do with their skills while only in teenage years.
Reference Heavy
Danganronpa makes many blunt and more vague references to other medias. For the sake of not magically knowing about things from worlds they shouldn't even know about, all references should either be removed or kept generic enough to be referring to someone LIKE who it was originally intended to reference without actually being ABOUT them. (For instance in canon Gonta has fought with a wrestler called the 'Red Cyclone'. Given that's a DIRECT reference to Zangief from street fighter, the name is removed, and he's now fought some generic dude that seems like Zangief but is not, in fact, Zangief. Canon Gonta was also actually raised by Reptites (the dino people from Chrono Trigger) and just used wolves as a cover story to keep the Reptites a secret, but now the barely even existent Reptite subplot is entirely removed and he actually WAS raised by wolves.) Any apps made for reference heavy characters from this world should keep this in mind.
