Overview
Welcome to the continent of Ivalice, where the monolithic powers of the Archadian Empire and the Rozarrian Empire have resolved their battle, and the Kingdom of Dalmasca's independence has been restored. People look toward the future and rebuild in the wake of the clash of Imperial powers.
Magick is made possible through the natural phenomenon of Mist. Societies have found ways to artificially condense Mist and use this energy source to power anything from lamps to battleship cruisers. Anyone can use magick by purchasing prepared magicite, while other varieties power airships and other technology.
As far as integration goes, many technologies and customs of Ivalice have been adopted by nearby worlds, such as smaller magicite sources, enough to power very small airships, or the enterprising moogles running chocobo rental stables in more rural areas.
The tradition of posting bills for hunt marks, or monsters, has been adopted in the more untamed areas of border worlds, as well as the use of spellstones, prepared magicite that allows anyone to use various low-grade magicks. Ivalice has also slowly begun to adopt technologies and customs of the worlds beyond them -- most notably, the Empire of Archades and the Empire of Rozarria consider offworld habits and technologies to be fashionable and desirable, setting examples throughout the realm. Smaller places, like the Kingdom of Dalmasca or the independent port of Balfonheim, are more hesitant to bend tradition and are a little more wary of outsiders and their toys.
Chronologically, this setting takes place after the main game's storyline, but before Revenant Wings.
