Overview
Aloy is a stubborn young woman of the primitive Nora tribe of warriors. Unlike her tribemates, she is a curious and exploratory young woman who has no fear of ancient ruins and little belief in magic or superstition. She has a natural knack for advanced technology, and a fascination with it that some say is unhealthy. She is also an excellent hunter, and skilled in tracking, bow, and survival, along with being a cunning warrior. Her abilities are enhanced by her Focus, a technological device that heightens her senses and lets her interact more easily with high technology.
Perks
Focus: Enhances senses, analyzes, interfaces with computers, and communicates.
Aloy's Focus is a small device that grants her, among other things, heightened senses in the vision and hearing areas, to an extreme degree. It also stores data and presents it at a thought, allowing her to take notes or even label items to aid in learning or catalogueing. It has a native wireless connection that lets it search out and connect with local networks to let her use advanced computing devices more easily, and can analyze mechanical and robotic components swiftly, making a guess as to their purpose, though this is merely an educated guess based on stored data and context. She can use this device to communicate long distances to those she has met before, provided the distance is not too great and nothing is interfering.
Genius: Quickly grasp advanced concepts, use advanced technology at a basic level.
Possessing one of the greatest minds of her age, Aloy would have been an incredibly gifted scientist had she not devoted her efforts to more physical pursuits instead. Even so she is quick to pick up on new concepts and ideas, and very easily adjusts to advanced technology. She will not be able to pick up specialized knowledge like engineering or hacking, but learning to read a new language, drive a simple vehicle, or use an unfamiliar operating system is very easy for her.
Athletic: Very fit and athletic, excellent balance.
Aloy is in excellent shape, and has an extremely developed sense of balance. She can walk on thin ropes and even fight on such narrow places without much worry. She is a swift runner with high endurance, and extremely good at climbing and jumping. Aloy is very good at dodging and tumbling as well, able to survive reasonably high falls and roll with impacts, and has great reflexes.
Crafting: Can make ammo, traps, and salves, some with elemental effects.
While she is not a craftsman by trade, Aloy knows how to make hunting supplies and ammunition. In her case, this means simple medicinal poultices to speed healing, use as painkillers, and prevent infection or clean wounds, along with some capability to make mild resistance to fire, cold, and other environmental effects. To create these she needs to be familiar with the local flora and fauna, and otherwise she will need to be supplied the materials. Given a few hours, Aloy can find enough material to create two to three applications presuming a fair amount of vegetation is nearby, but this is useless in deep badlands or the city. She can build simple traps and lures from available, reasonable materials such as an explosive trap from any highly flammable material nearby or carried on her person, and she can craft ammunition for most primitive weapons like the ones she uses out of scrap materials like metal and wood fragments. She cannot normally build complex devices though, this skill is for swiftly crafting simple weapons and jury-rigging advanced components onto existing tools. Aloy only needs a few minutes to craft ammunition, but medical supplies and traps take much more time, and she usually only carries a couple of each.
Hunter: Skilled with bow, spear, hunting weapons. Good at tracking, stealth, survival.
As a skilled hunter, Aloy is proficient in most hunting weapons such as the spear and bow. She is actually excellent with the bow, able to shoot even while precariously balanced or in the middle of athletic slides or jumps. She is good at stalking and hiding, tracking game(especially with the help of her Focus), and basic wilderness survival such as starting fires, cooking game, and other basic survival tasks.
Hunting Gear: Bow, spear, supplies and traps. Some with elemental effects.
As a hunter, Aloy carries typical supplies for the wilderness hunting trip. Basic camping supplies like a bedroll, a spear for hand to hand combat, a bow for distance shooting, and a few simple ground traps that can trigger small explosions of fire, frost, or electricity. She is adept at swiftly setting up tripwires or binding ropes for large creatures. Many of her arrows also have elemental effects, or armor piercing.
Override< Edge-C >: Control weak and simple robots with basic orders.
If Aloy has intimately studied a robotic opponent, or somehow been given blueprints or access codes through her Focus or otherwise, she can attempt to override their instructions and take control of basic robots. This requires her to close in and use her spear, leaving her vulnerable to counterattack, and only works on robots that are not self-willed and use some kind of programming. They will follow very basic orders and defend her, or be used as mounts. This is normally temporary, and keeping any beyond one scene requires a Committed Edge. More powerful or intelligent robots are immune to this sort of control.
NPCs
Overridden Machines< D-Tier Basic >: Simple animal-like robots that will fight for Aloy or can be used as mounts.
Machines that Aloy knows especially intimately - almost always from her own world - can be overridden more long term and provide weak but useful machines that can serve as a mount, or attack with her. These machines are not particularly intelligent, though they can follow reasonable instructions and identify friend or foe. The machines usually attack with simple physical attacks, but some have distance attacks like rockets or lasers, ice breath or fire breath, flight, or excellent camouflage. Each machine will only have one special ability and Aloy cannot normally control groups of different machines at once, with the exception of pairing a mount with some other kind of machine.
Complications
Stubborn: Aloy makes up her mind and sticks with it longer than she should.
She may be crafty and creative, but once Aloy has settled on doing something, she is unlikely to be dissuaded until convinced it is literally impossible at this time. This single-minded purpose can be abrasive to others, and also make her very predictable if someone learns what her current goal is.
Rebellious: Tends to chafe against tradition and establishment.
Aloy has grown up being told what not to do because of tradition and superstition, and she has little faith in such things as being important. She will almost automatically question any directive to not do something, and if she can't be convinced of a VERY good reason not to try something or go somewhere that is off-limits, she'll likely do it just to be contrary. Risking life and limb is not a good reason to stop her from doing something. Eventually constantly breaking taboos that people have will likely cause problems with her social interactions, even if she tries not to be disrespectful to their face. Aloy unfortunately lacks great tact.
Focus Dependence: Aloy is almost never without her Focus. It is like an addiction.
Aloy has used her Focus to enhance her perception and abilities for over a decade, which is over half of her natural life. She's grown accustomed to its constant feed of information and monitoring of the area around her, and without it she feels blind and deaf to the point of distraction. Her ability to fight is greatly hampered, and outside of combat she will have an obsessive need to either recover her Focus, or find a replacement, overriding many other concerns. Fortunately, it is hard(though not impossible) to damage it or take from her without capturing her... but it can be disrupted by anti-technological measures or hacked temporarily, which is the same as taking it away, and causes both her aim and her alertness to suffer. (Disrupting or removing Aloy's focus reduces her Tier by one rank until it is recovered or working again)
Fascination With Technology: Very curious about advanced technology and pokes where she shouldn't.
An unsung genius in a land of primitives, Aloy isn't an inventor or scientist herself... but she has the mind of one, and is all too eager to poke around with new or unfamiliar technology. She knows well how dangerous it can be, but can't resist at least investigating a little and trying things she knows she shouldn't. The only upside is she also isn't hesitant to destroy it if need be, but she's unlikely to take someone's word on that before she's seen for herself... sometimes in ways that cause their own problems.
