Kassandra

Kassandra
World: Super Mario-1

Overview

Born and raised on Vibe Island, a small isle not far from the Mushroom Kingdom, Kassandra is a quiet, introverted and anxious young Koopa who grew up unsure of where she fit in due to her hybrid heritage. After leaving behind her village and her manipulative mother in a fruitless search for opportunities, she ended up back at square one, only to find the dark lord Bowser's army waiting to snatch her into their ranks. There Kassandra uses her talents in invisibility and her limited arcane arts to spy from the shadows - though despite her devotion to her duty, every day since has been a battle with her conscience and dignity that seems to have only grown more difficult.

Perks

[Expand]
Flight: Kassandra's cloud enables her to fly at low altitudes.
Kassandra can fly by way of a small cloud on which she sits for the majority of her day. She is quite maneuverable in the air and can fly with virtually infinite stamina at low altitude and at about a normal human jogging speed, since flight is her primary mode of transportation, but the higher and faster she flies, the less time she will be able to do it. Going too high or too fast will result in her cloud weakening and pitching until she rests and recovers, and if she were to fly particularly high for extended periods of time, her cloud could disappear right under her feet.

Magic Tricks: Small fireballs, minor size changing, and minor telekinesis.
Kassandra's magical abilities are not as expansive as that of a true Magikoopa, but they can certainly prove handy in a pinch. She can cast small, short-ranged balls of violet flame, coat objects in magic glitter to make them slightly larger or slightly smaller, and levitate an object in her immediate vicinity from one place to another. All of these are more taxing for her than they would for a full-blooded magician, however, and she finds herself tiring easily when she sustains these abilities for long periods at a time.

Sharp Bomber: Kassandra has keen depth perception and aerial accuracy with projectiles.
Being half-Lakitu has afforded her an innate measure of eyesight and accuracy, as part of a species whose sole evolutionary purpose is dropping spiky quadrupeds as heavy as they are onto Mario's head. She is skilled in leveraging the effects of gravity and the calculus of kinetic energy to maneuver objects into positions, whether that be into a tight gap or onto a target's back, though this also means she is subject to the limits of gravity. Her vision is about three times sharper than that of a normal human. Note that her glasses do not actually enhance or hamper her vision, intended only to conceal her eyes.

Invisibility: Kassandra can conceal her presence in an area.
Kassandra has discovered a way to combine the Lakitu's affinity with the clouds and the Magikoopa's arcane ability, using magically imbued drops of condensation to bend light around herself. Her invisibility conceals her from plain view, at all levels of light, and she will not cast a shadow while she is invisible. However, it does not make her intangible, nor does it negate sound or bodily functions, so she may - accidentally or on purpose - be compromised by a poorly timed reaction, or by simply being happened upon by an unsuspecting passerby. She cannot be invisible forever, only for about an hour or two in one sitting, which can be shortened if her focus is interrupted.
[Expand]
Teleportation: She can teleport short distances through the air.
Kassandra can teleport across short distances, at a maximum of about a thousand or so feet. She cannot teleport through walls or closed doors, or from locked spaces into open ones, but she can teleport around obstacles or opponents, which is varyingly useful depending on the environment. She can use this ability without expending much stamina due to intensive practice, but teleporting multiple times in quick succession with little time between will exhaust her. Generally, the longer the distance, the more energy this ability uses.

Survivalist: Kassandra knows how to survive in the wilderness on next to nothing.
Between growing up in a remote backwater village on a climatically diverse island and spending more than a few nights in the wilderness with nowhere to go, Kassandra has learned to live with nature. Need to start a fire, hunt or forage for food, improvise some tools, or find out if that fruit over there is going to kill you? Kassandra is your woman. She is not a walking encyclopedia, but her knowledge of many different climates and their characteristics in survival situations is quite vast.

Complications

[Expand]
Doormat Syndrome: It isn't difficult to maneuver Kassandra into doing a lot of things.
Much of Kassandra's sense of self-worth comes from how well she serves others, and thus she will rarely hesitate to say yes when forced or pressured to do something by someone else, often at the expense of her own boundaries. She has trouble advocating for herself when coaxed into doing things that go against her sensibility or morality, often hoping in these cases that going with the flow will bring her some kind of better result in the long run. This could have any number of consequences, such as catching her between conflicting interests or sacrificing her bodily safety in potentially lethal situations.
[Expand]
Avoidant: Kassandra will avoid direct conflict at practically any cost.
An oddity among a race known for being far less subtle, Kassandra prefers to simply not deal. Being as small and slight a creature as she is despite some surprising upper body strength, direct combat is a major concern for her due to her disadvantages in size and combat power, and being around stronger or larger individuals leaves her feeling as if she is at their mercy. While she is not necessarily a cowardly woman, she is more likely to bow out when outmatched rather than to take a stand or even to attempt to outsmart the threat.
[Expand]
Paranoid: She is extremely slow to trust and harbors deep fear about others.
Kassandra would arguably be both stronger and happier were she to lean on others, but she avoids it like the plague. Often coming across as anything from nervous or skittish to icy and aloof, she holds a deep-seated sense of fear that anyone around her could betray her, and thus will practically never reveal her motivations to others. The less other people know, the better. Perceptive characters may end up clocking her as duplicitous or dishonest, which would be true to an extent even though her intentions are not necessarily to defraud. This usually extends to members of her troop or even those with similar goals as herself. People who remind her of her emotionally manipulative mother will have a particularly hard time gaining her trust.
