Kion

Kion
World: Lion Guard-1

Overview

Kion is the youngest son of King Simba of the Pridelands, and though never at the front of the line of inheritance, has always felt a deep sense of responsibility to his family and community. He spent much of his youth as the leader of the Lion Guard, the elite team responsible for the defense of the kingdom. As such, he was granted command of the Roar of the Elders, a mystical power that allows him to channel the elemental forces of air and earth through his roar. He is thoughtful and honest in his dealings with others, and usually tries to find a diplomatic solution to a problem before resorting to force, but is a truly fierce defender and has never backed down from a confrontation where one is necessary. He has traveled much and is always eager to learn about new animals and cultures outside of the land of his birth. As an adult, he and his mate Rani serve as king and queen of the Tree of Life, a mystical site that provides safety and sanctuary to any animals in need.

Perks

[Expand]
Feline Acuity: Acute senses of small, hearing, and nightvision. Catlike reflexes and agility.
Kion is a cat and has appropriate catlike abilities. He can see extremely well in the dark. He is experienced in the art of silent movement and the pounce, and is a decent scent tracker.
[Expand]
Experienced Fighter: Has teeth, claws, and weight, and knows how to use them.
Kion was born an apex predator. Since then, he's tussled with animals from all over the world, whether in earnest or in play. Not only does he know how to handle himself against them, but has been able to adapt some of their own tricks for his own use. He has confidence in his strength and skill, and won't back down from a cause he believes in.
[Expand]
Natural Leader: Assumes leadership roles naturally and inspires confidence.
Kion has a fair amount of natural charisma, and grew up in a royal family, so he knows how to speak diplomatically. His confidence and determination inspire like in those around him. He's decisive and precise in delegating responsibility, even in the thick of combat. He's not afraid to listen to advice, admit when he was wrong and learn from his mistakes. He also has an excellent singing voice!
[Expand]
Wisdom of the Past: Kion can speak with spirits of the past for counsel and advice.
Kion is able to see the ancestral spirits of great lions in the sky and communicate with them. He can speak with his grandfather Mufasa at will, a connection which appears to transcend worldly boundaries. This sensitivity to the spiritual could potentially provide a conduit for spirits from other worlds to communicate as well, but Kion can't force such a connection.
[Expand]
Master of the Roar: Air: Can command the force of wind, from hurricane blasts to precise levitation.
As long as he is able to roar, Kion can summon up gale force winds to send enemies flying, or exercise precise control over dust devils to lift and carry objects, people, and even himself as gently as a feather. With Edge, he can lift even an extremely heavy object like a single family house, foundations and all out of the earth, without damaging it. He can focus blasts of air to shatter boulders or walls. The ability is somewhat hindered while indoors, as the wind needs a path through which to flow.
[Expand]
Master of the Roar: Earth: Can open cracks in the ground, widen passages, raise pillars of rock.
As long as he is able to roar, Kion can exercise local control over earth and stone. He can open deep pits (20 feet or so) to trap enemies. He can reshape rock passages to help or hinder travel through them. And he can raise pillars of rock from the ground to create steps, or strike an unsuspecting foe from below. The ability is of course contingent upon there being rock nearby to manipulate. For instance, if he were in a building more than a couple stories from the ground, he wouldn't be able to reach the earth to make it quake without expending Edge.
[Expand]
Master of the Roar: Misc: Can create storms from existing clouds, temporarily alter local water flow
The power of the Roar over the elements of water and fire is lesser, and lesser known, but Kion can use it to trigger rain, so long as there's a cloud already in the sky that he can target. However, he can't predict or control the intensity or duration of the storm once it's set off. He can also part shallow water in order to create a dry path to walk across, and can hold back the flow of a river or waterfall, within a radius of about 20 feet, so long as he maintains a continuous roar. He also once inadvertently triggered the eruption of a dormant volcano, though again, the magma was already there just below the surface. As far as putting fires OUT, he still relies on traditional means. Other uses could potentially be discovered (with staff approval).

Complications

[Expand]
Quadrupedal: Lacks opposable thumbs. Relies on all four limbs to move around.
While he has slightly more manipulative ability with his paws than a regular cat might, they are still paws, not hands. Big, potentially clumsy lion paws. Kion is unable to use any technology or tools requiring the use of thumbs. At most, he could tap buttons carefully one at a time with a claw. He can't walk more than a few steps balancing on his hind legs. In order to carry things, they need to fit in his mouth or on his back.
[Expand]
Illiterate: Can't make sense of words or symbols beyond basic pictograms.
Kion will never learn how to read. It's not just a matter of needing to learn the alphabet; his brain isn't wired for it. Written language just looks like incomprehensible gibberish to him. In his world, history is kept through oral tradition and cave paintings. So he can make sense of drawings and animations, but not text.
[Expand]
Defender of the Circle of Life: Strong sense of justice, always seeks to right wrongs.
Kion can't abide injustice, and feels compelled to intervene wherever he perceives it. He believes that there's a natural order to things, and will oppose anyone who subjugates the weak, takes more than their fair share, or otherwise sows chaos and causes problems for peace-loving innocents. He also sees it as his general duty to help anyone in trouble, even if they're an enemy.
[Expand]
Stranger in a Strange Land: Baffled by human culture, has trouble with moral shades of gray.
Kion is from a simpler, tribal world, where the problems that arise are more straightforward to confront. The separation between good guys and bad guys is clear-cut, and the means by which they conflict is also much simpler: you fight the bad guys and drive them away. He struggles with complex politics where multiple sides have valid stakes, and the answers aren't black and white. He has no context for things like intellectual property rights or nuclear disarmament treaties. This makes him vulnerable to manipulation by smooth talkers who can twist words to rationalize their position. Of course, fool him once, and he'll put that person into the "bad guys" column forevermore.
