Overview
The world of Mortal Kombat revolves around the aptly named Mortal Kombat tournament. Rather than letting the universe explode into all out war, the creators of the Realms -- known as the Elder Gods -- decreed that invasion from one Realm to another could occur after ten consecutive wins of Mortal Kombat, which consist of one on one martial arts fights between the best fighters of two Realms.
The Mortal Kombat universe is composed of many Realms -- amongst them, Earthrealm, Outworld, Edenia, the Netherrealm, Chaosrealm and Orderrealm -- and many different inhabitants in these Realms. Chief amongst them is Outworld which has the capability of absorbing worlds that have been defeated via the Mortal Kombat tournaments.
What none but the Elder Gods know is that the tournaments are not merely to keep the Realms from being embroiled in never-ending war. The tournaments are a way to impede the resurrection of the One Being, the being whose consciousness was shattered to created the Realms. When all the Realms are one, the One Being will awaken, and the Realms will disappear. The Elder Gods, the Mortal Kombat Tournaments, and the brave and brutal fighters who compete in it are all that stands against the complete disappearance of all the Realms.
However, with the Titan Kronika attempting to erase the timeline and create a new, "perfect" one, many of the warriors that once defended the Realms have been ejected from the timeline with Kronika's interference, and have found themselves in the World Tree with no way to return. They will need to learn how to survive in this new place, where such bloody displays as they've become accustomed to are unnecessary... and generally unwelcome.
