Overview

It's the mid 2020s, and warfare has evolved from the age of formations engaging man-to-man to complex cyberwarfare carried out across thousands of miles. Terrorism is on the rise, with a brutal Urzikstani group known as Al-Qatala waging warfare against the west and east, seeking independence from the Russian Federation as well as striking back against what they see as a decadent culture in Europe and America.

A special operations team has been founded to engage these new and deadly threats called Task Force 141, led by British special forces Captain John Price and CIA officer Kate Laswell. Striking with precision in the shadows, they seek to bring these monsters to the light.

However in the darkness, there are secrets that should stay quiet, monsters made by man and worse that came from dabbling with the nature of reality beyond. The black market has been quick to take advantage of access to the Worldtree, smuggling product in and out of the world from drugs to weaponry and artifacts from other worlds that fetch an extremely high price. Operations ranging from drug cartels to terrorist groups have also expanded, wanting to form footholds offworld wherever they can.

The rest of the world has been socially upended for the most part, world leaders scrambling to get a handle on the situation. Cults dedicated to the Tree have sprung up already, as well as extremist forces who intend to close borders from offworlders. Amoral experimentation with offworlders is an open secret, as they're regarded with suspicion by most, while others seek to make deals in order to acquire resources and plant flags.
Aetherium

First discovered in Poland by the Nazis, Aetherium is an element that can open rifts into other dimensions all over the World Tree. Exposure to Aetherium unprotected is capable of causing paranoia, psychosis, and hallucinations as well as reanimate necrotic tissue, creating zombies. The discovery of this element has created an arms race that outlasted both the second World War and the Cold War, with many weapons and technological devices purged from the history books by both East and West alike.
