Overview

    It is the early 1880's, now over a decade since the bloody Boshin War of Japan that ended the Tokugawa Shogunate and restored the Emperor's power. The Industrial Revolution of the Meiji era is now in full swing, but even now the remnants of the samurai caste and the new government have conflicts, and intrigue threatens to tear the country of Japan apart. The rest of the world is only now learning more of this strange nation, some seeking to exploit it, and others to ally.

    Though closely matching history, the powers in the shadows make use of fighters whose skills border on the supernatural. Uncanny swordsmen with speed faster than the eye battle with men who have surgically altered their bodies to breathe fire. Martial artists destroy entire walls with punches, while others employ explosives and gliders to perform aerobatics unknown to the age in reality. Yet actual magic and true superpowers are only rumored at, not truly present.
