Overview

Zoophobia takes place primarily in the city of Safe Haven, which exists on a modern-day Earth yet is isolated from the outside world by both a vast forest and a magical barrier that keeps threats out and prevents anyone from leaving permanently. Safe Haven is populated mostly by mythical creatures and other beings who no longer have a place in the "real" world, with mundane humans being the minority (and treated as such by the general populace).

However, as the name implies, actual harm towards anyone is not tolerated, and therefore the more dangerous sorts (vampires, most demons, etc) are typically not allowed within Safe Haven's walls. An exception is made for very specific individuals who are tasked with bringing in new blood from the outside world, and certain other exceptions can be made in extenuating circumstances (i.e. the son of Lucifer being allowed to attend school in Safe Haven because Hell's royal family are known to respect laws, at least to the letter).

Most residents of Safe Haven are humanoid, either by being anthropomorphic or shapeshifters (or just /being/ humans but with magical power), though there are others who maintain quadrupedal or otherwise animalistic postures and/or forms. The city is primarily designed with this in mind, but has several sectors to accommodate those who do not fare well in modern city environments, including a forest, an aviary, etc. The most important location in Safe Haven (plot-wise, at least) is Zoo Phoenix Academy, a large school with multiple buildings where many of Safe Haven's residents receive their education, though it is not the only school in the city.

Due to its extremely diverse population, Safe Haven as a community is no stranger to unusual beings. Although there was initial alarm over the sudden presence of portals to other worlds on the World Tree, it has been confirmed that these portals do not otherwise compromise the city's barrier, meaning that it is considered relatively safe to engage with other worlds in matters of trade and immigration; Safe Haven has even begun welcoming mythical minorities from other worlds with open arms to further live up to its name. However, security has become notably tighter, with outsiders from other worlds being scrutinized more closely and travel to other worlds by natives being socially frowned upon (though not outright banned), due to a general belief that it will weaken the established community.

However, the barrier /is/ weakening. Although the incidents are hushed up by Safe Haven's government, rumors spread like wildfire of demons, vampires, and who knows what else infiltrating the city and preying on the innocent in the night. Some higher beings are likely involved, but just what is their aim, and how much worse will things get?
