Overview
DLN-000, also known as Blues or sometimes Proto Man, is the prototype for a series of autonomous thinking robots intended for military deployment. A flaw in his power systems required maintenance, but fearing that his individuality and self-awareness would also be 'corrected' during the repair, Blues fled from his creator and went rogue. The fault was later partially repaired by another scientist, but his distrust remains. Even as a rogue robot, Blues has a good heart and a kindness toward humanity that compels him to help, even at great risk to himself. Blues is an agile and powerful combatant with a built-in blaster cannon, a shield for protection, and the versatile Variable Weapon System which allows him to copy abilities from defeated foes and temporarily use them as his own.
Perks
Proto Cannon: A powerful arm cannon that shoots things.
Either of Blues's arms can transform into an energy cannon, capable of firing powerful blasts. He can also charge a shot up to trade rapid firing for a more powerful blast.
Advanced Robot: Blues is a tough, strong mechanical being.
He isn't bulletproof or anything, but Blues is a combat robot and thus much tougher than a human, with better endurance and much greater strength, enough to hold back a tank or lift a bus.
Proto Shield: A large, incredibly durable body shield.
A shield of an incredibly tough alloy, Blues uses this to protect his relatively fragile body compared to most other robots. It is very resistant to most forms of damage.
Variable Weapon System< Copy-T >: Blues can analyze defeated enemies to copy their attacks.
After fighting and defeating a foe, Blues can analyze their special abilities. He must remain still and in contact for some time to do this, and can only gain one aspect of their abilities, usually an attack of some sort based upon the major ability of his opponent. Absorbing abilities can have a minor effect on Blues's outlook and personality, so he routinely purges these from his systems after some time has passed.
Teleport System< Edge-E >: Blues can perform long-distance teleports.
Blues has the ability to teleport long distances with fine precision, allowing him to home in on a known location or signal and arrive within a meter or two of his target, but without the precision to adjust orientation or engage in a grapple. It is much easier to teleport with less precision, but this requires an open space to avoid teleporting into walls. This takes a large amount of energy, so it is impractical for short distances or rapid, repeated teleports. Blues also has the ability to take others with him, though nonhuman creatures may suffer from motion sickness after transport. He can only teleport with whatever he can comfortably carry, so a large desk or bike might be possible, but lifting a car and trying to teleport would not work. Blues can even teleport into heavily-fortified and shielded areas, but this puts a strain on his systems and requires a point of Edge.
Proto Jet and Coil: Lendable machines to boost jumps or provide limited flight.
These devices are kept in subspace, and may be called upon to either boost Blues, or an ally. The Proto Coil is a mechanical springboard that dramatically boosts jumping height and precision, while the Proto Jet is a jet sled allowing rapid forward flight with limited maneuverability and little gain in altitude.
Sensors: Blues can magnify vision, see in low light, and see electromagnetism.
Blues has a built-in radio transceiver, along with the ability to detect radio and electromagnetic emissions. He can also see in low levels of light, and somewhat magnify his vision like binoculars. However, Blues does not have a heavily-developed sensor suite beyond these abilities, and is not designed to ferret out stealth.
Combat Model: Blues is good at fighting.
Blues was designed as a combat robot, and has both basic battle procedures programmed in, along with a decent amount of fighting experience to draw upon, making him an excellent combatant.
Complications
Identity Issues: Blues is uncertain of his place in the world.
With his original purpose being replaced in his eyes, Blues is constantly seeking affirmation of a purpose in his life. He will latch on to anything with meaning or that gives his existence meaning. His status as a self-willed robot also makes him unique and lonely, and he can sometimes be tricked into overlooking matters that he would normally object to, and end up working for the wrong side. He isn't naive, just desperate enough to ignore his better judgement at times.
Trust Issues: Blues has trouble trusting people in the long term.
Blues is very particular about who he trusts, especially when it comes to working on his systems. He is fairly convinced that most people have no interest in helping a self-aware robot like himself, and that most robots won't understand his desire to be more human. He will always maintain a wary distance between himself and others, and will be quick to make the conclusion that he's being turned upon. He is usually willing to work with others who have similar goals, but he'll play things close to the chest and will be unwilling to make a formal alliance. This makes it difficult for others to trust his motives, either.
Moral Code: Even when he tries to stay away, Blues can't help but help people.
Even though he claims to want nothing to do with humans - or other species - and their problems, Blues has an appreciation for life and innocence that's just a part of who he is. His principles will drive him to help those in trouble even at the cost of his own well-being or safety.
The Whistle: Blues tends to announce his presence with his trademark tune.
Early on in his existence, Blues composed a little tune that he liked to whistle while he was performing other activities. This has become his calling card. This is a minor complication because Blues will refrain from whistling when specifically trying to be sneaky, but if he is not told otherwise he tends to announce his presence a few moments ahead of time with this distinctive whistled tune.
Limited Repair: Robots have limited self-repair, and Blues doesn't trust most mechanics.
As advanced as he is, Blues has only a limited ability to self-repair, and major damage requires specialty work. Unfortunately, with his trust issues, finding someone who can work on him that he will allow into his internal systems is very rare, meaning damage can linger for long periods of time before he finally collapses and is repaired whether he wants it or not. In the meantime he may end up operating at lower levels of functionality.
