World Tree MUSH

The Great Library Heist

Neviah Younger wants access to Archimedeus the Ochre's library for more information about her homeworld. The City Watch isn't letting anyone into the dead wizard's tower.

Lether says there's a way in.

Whoeever's up for a little espionage is welcome to come sneak along.
Character Pose
Lether
Back to the city of Freedale then... The outskirts are quiet tonight and Lether said to meet at the old tower at midnight. For those NOT originally part of the heist, the tower of the old wizard Archimedeus the Ochre was said to have a large library and records of all kinds of archaeological finds from worlds both near and distant.
But for Dante and Neviah... There's definitely supposedly something of worth in that library.
Lether waits crouched in the shadow of the tower, the lone City Watch guard is dozing off peacefully at the doorway, so she's snuck around to the back to wait for the others to arrive.
Neviah Younger
Neviah put her adventurer's outfit on. Sun dress out, ensemble of bronze and straps and silks in. It's surprisingly impractical for armour but could probably show up in some kind of alt-fashion mag.

In any case, stealth isn't really her forte, but at least she's not producing any particular noise as she moves along the back of the tower. Settling into a shadow, she folds her arms across her robs and looks up the length of the edifice. Their last trip through this place went less than swimmingly. Nevertheless, there are things in there she needs, and obtaining them requires the help of the town's resident Chevrolet movie theatre.

"How will we get up?" she whispers, trying to keep as silent as she can.
Dante
Dante spent most of the wait gambling and drinking, and with a nice haul of gold later Dante's promptly kicked outta every gambling den in the city. If he returns, they WILL come for his head. "Bring it", Dante says. But that's an issue for another day. After pistol whipping the guard to knock him out, the rest was child's play. Here he's already limbering up. "I got that." Without warning, Dante runs up the side of the tower, riiiiight into a convenient window that was big enoughh to slip through, defying physics in such a nonchalant way it just sells the disrespect more. He drops down and then takes Neviah's hand, "Don't get the wrong idea, babe. We're still just pals."

    Yeah, in spite of everything.

Dante lifts Neviah up after a running start and he sprints up to the window, carrying her through the opening!
Endrit
Endrit has heard about this vast library, witch has peaked her interest, such vast knowledge of Magic and archaeological finds intriguing. The little dragon deciding to try and gain entry, her colored feathers not good for stealth, but it seems she can move quietly enough as she movesa to the back ally ways of the tower
Lether
That's the thing. Stealth is Lether's forte.
When Dante and Neviah arrive she holds a finger up to her lips and jerks a thumb around to the front of the tower where the guard can be heard snoring. Coiled at her feet is a sturdy looking length of rope.
"Aite, jus' be quiet about this an' I'll get you up there an-..."
    Dante pistol whips the guard.
"... Okay a little overkill but fair." The Lizardfolk girl says before golden eyes drift to Endrit.
"... Who're you?" She asks point blank, thumb running over the blade of a knife in her hand threateningly at first.
"You want in, just keep it quiet, but if you're here to squeal I might have to shank you." It's a dire warning as the girl clutches an end of the rope in her sharp teeth and just... Starts scaling the wall like a gecko. Fast, quiet, nimble.
In a moment she's in through the window with the rope. In another moment she's signaling the others to climb up now that the rope is anchored and the coast is clear.
Climbing up the rope leads into the old lab, which means the library is just across the hall.
Neviah Younger
Neviah doesn't gamble. At least, not at formal gambling establishments.

The last thing she was expecting, however, was someone turning up. Neviah's eyes snap towards Endrit, her hand coming up just a little. "Who are you?" she hisses, wary.

The SECOND-last thing she was expecting was for Dante to manhandle her up the tower. She widens her eyes with a startled breath as she's snapped up, then lets the air out in a puff. "I would expect no more, Dante of Sparda," she murmurs as she's lugged into the tower like an excessively vampy sack of potatoes.

Up they go. Neviah dusts herself off primly as she's set down. If nothing else, Dante got her up there in one piece. Into the lab they go, and the once and former professor begins to move forward with care, easing towards the hallway and the library beyond. From beneath her cloaks somewhere she produces a large, padded backpack.
Dante
"She'll eat you alive, buddy." Dante tells Endrit frankly. "Like a raw pheasant." He doesn't seem at all concerned with Endrit, if she's a problem it'll be dealt with. But until then, Dante's going to help Neviah inside, gracefully laying her through the window opening. Then he lets Neviah do her thing, while he keeps watch for guards. They're off to the lab, where Dante had poked through without any kind of knowledge as to the finer points of what was in there beyond 'weird wizard crap'. There's a lot of that here.
Endrit
Endrit blinks but seems almost unconcerned by the implied threat "O, I'm here to join in, don't much see your doing anything wrong, no reason to squeal on that " She then watches in surprise as Dante runs up the side of the tower, she then shrugs and flies ip and into the window, quick and quiet-like. she then turns to Dante "No threat to your group, and I am good at finding research quickly, witch i think you'll need
Lether
Alright everyone's in. Lether takes to a shadow, and when Endrit says she won't be a problem... Well. She'll take that answer for now. She motions for everyone to hold up and has a peek down the hall.
"Coast's clear." She mutters before creeping across the way and quietly picking the lock on the library door.
Thus, the group enters the grand library. It's bigger on the inside than it looked on the outside and there are several book cases overturned from the chaos of the last time everyone was here. But the dead Nothic is gone and there are no guards to stop anyone from exploring.
"Aite so... I have no idea how he organized anything. Good luck, I guess."
Neviah Younger
As much as Neviah is confident in her ability to deal with interlopers, she'd rather not murder people in front of Dante and Lether. If nothing else, this person seems to be trying to help. The cleric gives Endrit a side-eye, then nods shallowly. "If you see any literature concerning the words 'Faerun' or 'Toril,' bring it to me."

In the back of her mind, she reserves nuking rights it if becomes necessary. She doesn't want to do it, but....

Into the library they go. The Nothic's gone, the guards are gone, and there's a mess. Frowning, Neviah pulls her glasses out and tucks them into place, moving towards the bookcase nearest to where she remembers the Nothic hiding. "Dante," she advises, "can you look around for something that looks like an index? It should be something like a cabinet with little closed drawers full of cards. Any librarian with a large collection needs one." To the others, she raises her hand. "We need to find anything about, as I said, Faerun, Toril or any subjects that appear in the same place."
Endrit
Endrit eyes widen at the site of all these books, like a kid in a candy store, she then turns to Neviah "Understood" she starts zipping around the shelves, trying to figure out the organization of this library, moving to different sections, reading titles, trying to at least find the right section.
Dante
"Eeyup." Dante is mostly poking through the books on offer, like Endrit. He looks for anything with Toril or Faerun on them, just like Neviah said. But this really isn't his bag, Vergil would be able to sniff through this like nothing. Dante? He just wings it and plays Eeny Miney Moe on the shelves.
Lether
While Dante and Endrit begin exploring the library they'll find books on all different topics... Geography, geology, ~archeology of Faerun~, demonology, summonin, magic studies from beginner to advanced.
Lether herself goes for... The library desk.
"Found the index." She grunts holding up a rolo-thingy of cards after a good moment.
    "This IS it right?"
It is the rolo-thingy they seek.
    Who needs Vergil?
Neviah Younger
"The index, Dante?" Neviah lowers her eyelids a shade.

Fortunately, there's Lether, the most helpful deathroller. With a Cupid's-bow smile, Neviah glives over to the index. "Well, thank you, Lether. You're very helpful." Reaching into her cape, she comes out with a little gold and onyx amulet, which she dangles before dropping towards a gator-palm.

The cleric bites her lip gently as she begins to leaf through the rolodex. Going through such things is second nature to her. Before long, she's holding up one hand. "There's a section over there, closer to the western wall. It should be between 'Astronomy' and 'Art History.'"
Endrit
Endrit zips over to the section mentioned, and starts the search, she is quick to read through the titles, looking for any books on the forementioned subjects, it doesn't take her long ether "I think I found something" but before pulling out the book, she checks the sounding aria for any signs of magical protection.
Dante
"Hell if I know, I'm just the muscle." Dante shrugs helplesly before plucking out the geography text. He hands Neviah the tomb before going back to rummaging through more books.
Lether
Unfortunately the section on Toril is... Not very large. The wizard who lived here was wizened, old, and scholarly, but his broad spectrum of study wasn't as... Laser focused as say Neviah who made it her LIFE'S WORK to figure out the secrets of Faerun and Toril. But there are a few books. There's an old map. and there's a locked tome bound in human flesh.
"... That one gives me the willies." Lether grumps at the sight of it. Aside from those, it looks like the area has had its protection spells de-activated by the City Watch to let THEM have access to the things here. But they don't know just what they'd be finding.
Neviah Younger
They're finding stuff! And things! Neviah gravitates over to where Endrit is calling out. Dante intercepts her first, and she takes the tome in hand with a sweet smile. "Why, Dante. You're very helpful. Thank you."

The books they find are... less numerous than Neviah might like. The map, however, causes her eyes to brighten. She plucks it from the shelf with care, neatly rolls it up and tucks it into a separate pouch in her backpack. The rest of the books follow, stacked neatly into the backpack.

The book of flesh is the last one she looks at. Her hand hovers at the spine for a moment as she struggles with some internal quandry. Then she shakes her head and plucks it from the shelf, sliding it into the backpack's rear pouch, alone. "I don't like it either," she admits, "and it may very well be dangerous. But it may also hold knowledge that might never be available again."
Endrit
Endrit looks over that last book "Knowledge is Knowledge, doesn't really matter were it comes from, and its neither good nor evil, nor dangerous, its just all how it is used" she says as she pockets some books for herself as well, mostly books on artifacts as well as magic, she's not going to let this opportunity slip by.
Dante
Dante winks at Neviah before he peers over her shoulder, reading what she holds. He's not getting much outta this, but at the least they got SOMETHING from this little excursion.
Lether
"Nah... Nah..." Lether mutters. "That book... That book don't *feel* right." She disagrees with Endrit on the topic of dangerous knowledge.
"You read that book you better be careful. And *not* do it around me." She says, once the group has their fill and leads the way back to the lab, the rope and the way out the tower with an agitated rumbly noise.
