The World of Maho Wars-1
Overview
Three ancient and secret societies of magic-users continue their shadow wars on modern Earth in the face of integration into the World Tree. They are composed of transformed magic-using humans called maho.
The remnants of lost Atlantis keep the other shadow factions from dominating or enslaving humanity. They call themselves the Beacon Society and have reacted to otherworld visitors by serving as the world's magical police. They are getting used to working more openly than they have in the past.
Meanwhile the Occult Order of Trimegustus works to rule humanity behind the scenes. They use their magic to control key people in mundane society. They are the most hostile to the new visitors from the World Tree, seeing them as a threat to their philosophy of world control.
Then there is the mysterious Obsidian Cabal, who see the world as theirs to use as they see fit. Magical experiments and horrors are an everyday activity for the cabal's members. They are cautious about the new arrivals, though many wish to incorporate them into their projects.
Before the world opened up to traffic from the World Tree, most people didn't know the world had more to it. The three societies worked to keep the supernatural a secret, both to protect themselves from the angry masses of humanity and to preserve their own magical knowledge as a means of power. The World Tree is changing that, with each major faction reacting a slightly different way.
The typical protagonist (or even antagonist) from the world are variations on the magical girl or tokusatsu genres, called maho. There are also characters with obvious touches of non-human creatures in their ancestry, though these are rarer than the normal maho.
